About Us

VeloSA primarily manufacture stainless steel tanks in Wellington, Western Cape, South Africa for the wine, fruit juice, cool drink and milk industries. We also supply tanks to the brewery, Ethanol and relevant industries. The company is partly owned by the Velo family in Italy and partly by Chris Wium, previously co-owner of Vintec (Paarl) and currently the Managing Director of VeloSA.

During the busy season, there are approximately 60 employees working on site and during the 2005 season we manufactured more than 400 tanks. We also built four 1 million litre tanks on-site for the Klawer Winery in a record-time of two months.

In 2005 we received our first export orders from the USA and in 2006 we exported tanks to the same area in the USA. Recently we also received our first export order from Mozambique and if all goes to plan, we will be busy with this client for a good few years.

VeloSA also imports wine cellar equipment from Velo Italy and during the last press season, the biggest press tank in the history of South Africa was installed, tested and sold to Lutzville Wine Cellar. The capacity of this tank is a staggering 55,000 litres and can hold more than 150 ton of fresh grape skins at one time.

Velo Italy recently built the largest press tank in the world en VeloSA hopes to launch this tank in South Africa very soon. The capacity of this tank is 70,000 litres and can hold more than 200 ton of fresh grape skins.

VeloSA’s aim, provided that the current company growth continues, is to expand the current factory space two-fold to meet the ever increasing requirements and specifications needed by our clients.

Quality is the keyword and we comply with ISO 1900/2000 standards and all tanks are subject to the strict and high standards of manufacturing set by Velo Italy.
